Bulletin

The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The Sun is currently spotless and the X-ray flux remained below B-level. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for the next 24 hours.

No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed over the past 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at low levels. There is a currently a large low latitude coronal hole passing the central meridian of the Sun.

The Earth is currently under the influence of nominal solar wind conditions. The solar wind speed has decreased from 500 and 350 km/s. The total magnetic field strength has decreased from around 3 nT to 2 nT over the past 24 hours. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -2 and +2 nT (as recorded by ACE). Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 0-1 (NOAA) and local K index 0-2 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours.

The solar wind speed has been steadily decreasing following the passing of a recurrent low-latitude equatorial coronal hole of negative polarity. Another low-latitude equatorial coronal hole of positive polarity has just passed the central meridian and is anticipated to enhance solar wind speeds at Earth late on 2019-Aug-31.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 23 stations.
